Today we turned over a new leaf. We have been going threw a lot of changes in our lives, both professionally and personally, the last few months. And after many late night discussions about goals and where we are going, we started this new week with our first FEC. We started with a discussion of goals, taking turns suggesting things we each thought we could improve on as a family. We came up with 10 goals we will work on over the rest of the year. One of those goals was controlling our finances, another teaching our children.

We have been married for almost 13 years and have been threw many phases. As newly weds we were horrible housekeepers. Our house was ALWAYS disgusting. I hated doing dishes, laundry, and cleaning bathrooms. Looking back I think we were just VERY lazy and immature.

Then came children and our first house. I started getting the housekeeping thing under control and actually did OK at it. I will be the first to admit, I was not Amy, but the house stayed presentable... most of the time. 3 years ago Brady left his full time gig to work from home for himself, 2 years ago I started working for him full time and picked up a part time job as a gymnastics instructor. At that time, we had to create some priorities, and my extra income made it possible to hire a bi-monthly cleaning crew, freeing up our spare time to be spent as a family.

So- I have not scrubbed a toilet in 2 years and have loved every minute of it. Now my children are older, the economy has caused some down sizing of our business, and we are saving for the down payment on our home. Today one of the big decisions made was that we would no longer use the maids. Many other decisions and goals were set, but none with such impact, (on me.)

We will teach our children the value of work, and how to clean a toilet, along with adding a couple hundred extra a month to our saving plan. But I will sadly say goodbye to a bi-monthly habit that I have cherished for 2 years.

  1. First... YEA for FEC!!!! Good for you! Isn't it just amazing???!!! Keep it up for 6 weeks and you'll wonder how you ever lived without it!!!

So. No maids. BUMMER. BIG TIME. You refer to never being as clean as me... but I can't remember the last time I scrubbed a toilet. Seriously. Those belong to the men in this house. Although when we taught Sam to clean the toilet, I couldn't figure out why we were going through so much toilet cleaner, turns out he was using the entire container EACH time he cleaned the toilet!!! He's much better now though.

Jake cleans our master bath and Josh and Sam clean the other full bath and Jacob cleans the 1/2 bath because that is where he keeps all his face washing/teeth brushing supplies etc.

I was just looking at our bathroom thinking... someone needs to clean this! ;)

  2. I would LOVE a maid, but have never had that luxury. You can tell too. lol I have taught Conner how to clean bathrooms though, so that helps. Kudos to you two for readjusting your priorities.

    What is FEC?
