So much has happened since last time I posted. Amy has come and gone, and those who keep up with her blog know all those stories. Megan and Ben moved out last Wednesday to their new apartment in Provo. It is very cute and I am excited from them. So with all the guests gone we are settling back into our routine, or should be. It's been so long I'm not sure I remember what that means.
For those who haven't heard I am starting week 5 of healing my broken foot. The day Meg and Ben got here we were walking out the the garage to go to dinner. I am sure you are all familiar with the 2 or 3 steps out to the garage, you know, the ones that EVERYONE has trouble walking down.... least that's what I keep telling myself. Well I was walking down these terrifyingly, dangerous steps when I stepped wrong, lost my balance and managed to break the 5th metatarsal? on my left foot. (*Thank Heaven for small blessings and it wasnt my right foot. Do you have any idea how much you use you right foot for?) Anyway, I spent the next 2 days hobbling around, unable to put any weight on it, trying to convince myself it wasn't broken. That loud snapping noise I heard as I fell down the stairs was actually just a twig one of the kids stepped on at that exact instance, right?
So after a couple days, I gave up, went to the doctor and was told that I probably needed surgery. I asked if there was anyway to avoid that, he said if I stayed off my foot completely for 4 weeks, followed by 2 weeks in a walking boot that I may be able to avoid surgery but would need periodic x-rays to confirm the bones stayed aligned. I agreed to those terms. 2 weeks later, while leaving Costco, Amy and I were rear-ended. A bit of damage to my van, and sore necks for both Amy and I. But the next day I realised my foot was hurting worse than usual. Great... well at least if I need surgery now, her insurance will have to pay for it right? So back to the Dr. I go for more xrays, he says its still lined up, but there has been no healing which probably meant it re broke during the accident. So then he says, "Your 4 weeks has to start over!!! " So I am now on week 5 of the original timeline, so in theory 1 week from Tuesday I get to throw away the $5 crutches from DI, return the rented wheelchair, and start limping around in the ginormous walking boot. Let me tell you how great this has been from mine and Amy's plan to train for a tri-athalon this summer. That's something she doesn't mention in her blog. I completed screwed up our plans to spend the fall working out together. So instead I have sat on my ever expanding bottom being waited on by my 3 beautiful children and my wonderful sisters.

Roland and I completely understand the huge adjustments it takes with one less foot/leg to get around on. He is done with his walking boot-but still has trouble moving. At night, the muscle contracts and he moans in pain. I don't know if he'll ever be the same again...but who needs to go jogging around the block and play sports at 46? Right?:)
